Often we create problems in our own heads – as I mentioned a bit about a few days ago in Things May Be Simpler Than You Think – that aren’t really out there in reality. If you just ask you may find that people will often be willing to help you out.4. To decrease anxiety and think more clearly break the problem down. Then figure out one practical solution you can take for each of those parts. Find the opportunity and/or lesson within the problem.
Let’s face it, having to deal with problems can really suck, making you feel paralysed and out of control. Focus on the steps you can take to resolve things, rather than just thinking about what you’d like to happen. Make a list of all the ways you can save or earn more. Be creative and come up with as many solutions as you can think of.
Whatever the scale of your issues, there are steps you can take to feel more in control. However, if you make a list and break it down into smaller parts that you can make a start on solving, it’ll feel more manageable. It could mean walking to school rather than taking the bus, or applying for a part-time job. Some ideas may be way out there, but don’t worry about evaluating them yet. Evaluate your list of ideas and rule out the ones that are unrealistic or unhelpful. But how about trying to see things from your parents’ point of view?
In order to come up with new solutions, you can follow the rules of brainstorming: If you struggle with anxiety, actually picking a solution to your problem can often seem quite difficult.
However, it is important to remember that not solving a problem can lead to more anxiety than trying to solve it, no matter how anxious you feel.
If so, maybe these six quick tips can help you to solve it a little bit easier.1. Now it just exists (well, more or less, you might still feel a bit down about it).
First, ask yourself: is there really a problem here? You can use the energy you previously fed the problem with – the energy that probably made the problem look bigger than it was – to find creative solutions to the challenge.3. You can ask people for advice on what to do and what they did in similar situations. You don’t have to solve every problem on your own and sometimes it feels better to have someone by your side, even if it is just for emotional support. It might not always be easy but focusing your energy, time and thoughts in this way is much more beneficial for you and others than doing the opposite.5. Solving a problem can sometimes seem overwhelming and impossible. But those solutions can get you started and might solve a few pieces of the it.6.
If you had more than one solution and the first didn’t work, move on to another one.
