In 1992, National Junior Citizen awards were earned for the making of the video “Just Say No,” a drug awareness program shown at local schools.Honorary Past Regent De Young received local, state, and national acclaim for her artwork, featured in two issues of the DAR magazine. flag and an Illinois State flag were donated to the Barrington Area Library, where chapter meetings and events have been held for many years.
Our chapter is home to 134 members in service to the communities surrounding and including Barrington, Illinois.
These women are 20 to 90 years of age, employed and retired, married, and single – but all have verified their lineage to an American Revolutionary patriot.
We support Honor Flight Chicago with monetary donations and Thank You notes for the veterans’ mail call, and we are a Commemorative Partner with Vietnam War Veterans.
We recognize young students with essay contests and high school seniors with the DAR Good Citizens Award and scholarship funding; a portion of our donations are dedicated to Arts education for children in our communities and grants are provided to local libraries for adult programs.
In the past decade, Signal Hill’s fall English High Tea and Drama has become a highly anticipated annual event, enabling a threefold increase in financial donations to Northwest Chicago community charities.
As the Signal Hill Chapter National Society Daughters of the American Revolution, approaches its 50th Anniversary, more than 135 active members are proud to carry on the tradition of the National Society – honoring the service of our Revolutionary Patriot ancestors through activities that promote education, historical preservation, and patriotism.The play and scrapbook received state and national recognition and won “The Best Commemorative Event” at State and National in 2013.Signal Hill awarded the NSDAR Historical Preservation Medal to a deserving local resident.A chapter member personalized and mailed more than 2,500 individual holiday greeting cards, to American military veterans in the Midwest in 2017."Jon's Story" 2017 State and Division Award winning essay was shared by author Honorary Past Regent Kathy Boyle.Her second published book, an account of her father-in-law’s WWII experience: "One Lucky Combat Veteran" was also accepted by both ILDAR and NSDAR Libraries.Diane’s third published book, based on family genealogy research: “Shadows to Sunshine: Our Leffingwell Line” was accepted by ILDAR.Regent De Young received honors for her artwork for the Illinois DAR Cookbook, Christmas cards, calendar book, DAR Magazine ads, and designs for a new bookplate for the Illinois DAR Library.During 1987-89, Signal Hill received a State Award for the largest membership increase in its category.Our chapter is raising our philanthropic profile in the community.We collect comfort items for donation to VA hospitals and for VA Stand Down for homeless.
